The WAVE I: TIME & MATURATION
Bladnoch Distillery presents The WAVE, the second series in the Master Distiller's Collection. Demonstrating the marrying process of whisky casks, each annual release reveals one of the five whisky making pillars used by Dr Nick Savage.
The WAVE I: TIME & MATURATION showcases Bladnoch's method of selecting casks at the peak time of the maturation process for optimal flavour. For this first release, a 1,500 litre Amontillado Sherry tun was filled with Bladnoch whiskies from its extensive stock across the years, all matured in ex-Bourbon casks and combined with fifth and final release of its Waterfall series.
Tipped to tun in 2022 and bottled in 2024. 1817 bottles released.
PEATED SINGLE CASK: RUM CASK MATURED
Non-chill filtered | Natural colour | 700ml.
Bladnoch's Master Distiller Dr Nick Savage has specifically selected these three single casks for 2023 to give a broad range of taste experiences. All distilled in 2009, the Rum Cask gives a sugary sweet taste experience, with marshmallows and apple pie.

Bladnoch's Master Distiller Dr Nick Savage has specifically selected these three single casks for 2023 to give a broad range of taste experiences. All distilled in 2009, the Sherry Hogshead provides an intense taste experience. With bonfire Christmas cake, polished oak and plum jam, this cask really adds a different dimension to the 2023 Peated Collection.
PEATED SINGLE CASK: BOURBON BARREL MATURED
Non-chill filtered | Natural colour | 700ml.
Bladnoch's Master Distiller Dr Nick Savage has specifically selected these three single casks for 2023 to give a broad range of taste experiences. All distilled in 2009, the Bourbon Barrel gives a confectionary experience, with smoky vanilla custard.
Matured in a unique combination of 1st fill Bourbon and 1st fill Sherry casks for notes of fresh apple, sweet floral grass and hints of chocolate.
‘Vinaya’, a Sanskrit word meaning respect and gratitude, pays homage to the original founders of the distillery who paved the way, as Bladnoch looks forward to an exciting new era of production and innovation.

Made from two exceptional and rare casks, the Bladnoch 30-year-old Release is matured in a combination of Oloroso and Moscatel Sherry casks. The exquisite whisky imparts floral notes with dried apricots and nutmeg. On the palate, you can expect a rich almond and marzipan flavour along with Seville oranges, the finish is surprisingly light and fruity with a hint of cracked black pepper.

Named after the water source that provides for Bladnoch Distillery, the Loch Maberry Cask is our yearly release, hand-picked by master distiller Dr Nick Savage with help of Bladnoch's loyal fans. In creating this release, Bladnoch’s Master Distiller, Nick Savage hand-selected a collection of Bladnoch malts for the Boilermaker team to taste.
In a private tasting, Cask 102 was specially selected by the team led by Greg Sanderson as the perfect malt for the Boilermaker House customer.
Distilled in 2000 and finished in Moscatel casks for notes of treacle, nutmeg and fruit cake.
Introducing the Master Distiller’s Waterfall Collection, highlighting the journey that our whisky takes to mature its flavours and character. In five very special annual releases, Dr Nick Savage will unveil 1000 bottles each year, exclusively available at Bladnoch Distillery.
To cover the five years of releases, sufficient aged Bladnoch Single Malt has been set aside from a combination of sweet ex-Bourbon casks and intense Oloroso Sherry casks maturing in the archives. In year one, we will taste the whisky at the beginning of its maturation journey. Exquisite notes of lemon cake and dried apricot give this stunning first release a sweet freshness on the palate.
In each year that follows, the remaining liquid will be decanted into a new type of cask for a new layer of finishing where flavour and character will develop further. At the end of each year, Dr Nick Savage will assess how the whisky has matured and decide what the next cask type will be. This means our final Whisky is yet to be defined.

After a sellout Year One, Nick Savage's Master Distiller's Waterfall Release is back with Batch 02.
Continuing on the journey from Batch 01, the whisky has been taken out of the original Oloroso Sherry and Bourbon casks and refilled into Oloroso Sherry Puncheons developing new notes of treacle, dried apricots and hints of dark chocolate.

Single Cask 2021/05: Matured in an exquisite Port pipe, this single malt displays notes of polished oak, apricots and hints of liquorice. Distilled in April 2007, Cask 6703 is bottled at cask strength and natural colour.
Single Cask 2021/06: The 2021 Collection features an additional 6th cask, a grand ex Canasta Butt that is one of only a few to exist in Bladnoch’s bluestone warehouses. Distilled in October 2002, Cask 1001 is bottled at cask strength and natural colour.

Displaying notes of dark cherries, dried figs and polished oak, this Single Malt was distilled in September 2001. Cask 3244 is bottled at cask strength and natural colour.

Iteration I is the origin for all of our whisky. Barley is harvested annually from the farmers field before undergoing the process of malting. The resulting malted barley gives us the main raw material for our distillery. Before this raw material even arrives at the distillery, we have already encountered variety and variability from nature, our environment, and the malting process itself.

Iteration II is the first distillery production stage. The malted barley from the field is taken through the three key processes of mashing, fermentation and distillation. The potential variables and unpredictability further multiply through these steps with gravities, temperatures and cut points to name a few, all requiring a deep understanding from our mash and still men, ensuring we have a consistent new make spirit. This Lowland floral and fruity distillery character is ready to advance to be filled into our oak casks for maturation.

Iteration III in the series showcases another primary source of variability within the parallel process of cask coopering. The coopering of our casks has to consider a multitude of variables, ranging from oak species and the growth environment, through to the technical challenges of toasting, charring and seasoning. All of which can have a significant butterfly effect on our final whisky if the natural chaos within is not crafted by the Cooper.

Iteration IV focuses on the longest, the most complex and least understood process of maturation. Casks filled with new make spirit undertake years and decades of interactions with their environment, building an unpredictable structure for the whisky to come. Those who lay the casks down, pass them to a future generation, who will be the custodians of the results. The seasonal cycling of temperature and humidity, warehouse type and location, combining with the angels, to give us significant complexity to manage. Casks have been sought from the darkest, coldest locations in Bladnoch’s warehousing to amplify these effects in the Iteration IV.

Iteration V focuses on Whisky making in the sample room, where the decisions are made for our final products. All variability and unpredictability is considered at the bench, protecting tomorrows interests, whilst balancing todays needs for a consistent and sustainable experience for everyone. Taking the full complexity encountered to date, and simplifying it in these final steps. With innovation opportunities and the skills to build flexibly maturing stocks, the variability and unpredictability of everything in the process curve to this point, should not be noticed by anyone if we make the right decisions.
